The Hiring Process

Wayne County Community College District is delighted that you are visiting our Employment page. You are welcome to search through the position vacancy listings and apply for a position that meets our qualifications.

Available Positions
Wayne County Community College District Human Resources Department does not accept resumes or applications for positions that are NOT currently available, posted and/or advertised except for Part-Time (Adjunct) Faculty Pool. Vacant positions are posted by the District on the WCCCD website or can be viewed in the human resources office Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Applying for a Posted or Advertised Position
In order to apply for specific openings all applicants must submit the following:

  • A cover letter with job posting number indicated
  • Detailed resume
  • A list of references
  • Photocopies of academic transcripts

Applications/resumes can be submitted through email at jobs@wcccd.edu or in person at the district’s Human Resources Office at 801 West Fort Street, Detroit, MI.

After Receipt of Application/Resume
1.  The District receives all applications/resumes
2.  Applicants are notified by letter acknowledging receipt of application/resume.
3.  Applications/resumes are reviewed by a Screening Committee
4.  Selected applicants are contacted and interviewed
5.  The screening committee recommends candidates
6.  Hiring authority makes final decision on applicant best suited for the job
7.  Interviewed applicants are notified of the hiring decision

Screening Committee
A screening committee reviews application materials and selects an appropriate number of applicants to be interviewed.  The committee members are usually four to six employees representing all areas of the District as it relates to the position. 

The Screening Committee also conducts interviews and makes recommendation to the hiring authority for follow up interviews.  You may assume you will not be interviewed for the position, if you are not contacted within 20 business days of a position closing.  If you have not completed an employment application, you will be required to do so at the interview.

The hiring authority submits his/her recommendation to be reviewed and approved by the appropriate Vice Chancellor and the Chancellor. 

Offer of Employment
Offers of employment are extended only by the Human Resources Department Staff.  All offers are extended and made in writing and subject to WCCCD policies and collective bargaining agreements.
