Licensed Practical Nurse to Registered Nurse Bridge Program
The Nursing program at WCCCD offers a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)- to-Registered Nurse (RN) Bridge program that leads to an Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing. Graduates of the Bridge program are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Program requirements include an unencumbered license as a Licensed Practical Nurse with a minimum of 1 year of work experience as an LPN, and specific courses in the nursing major and general education. Nursing courses are 6 – 7.5 weeks. The nursing program is designed to prepare graduates to provide nursing care as staff nurses in a variety of health care settings.

The mission of the WCCCD LPN to RN Bridge nursing program is to educate, prepare, and empower student nurses to become competent registered nurses who exemplify professional practice in a compassionate, caring manner. The program strives for excellence using best-practice standards that promote the health and wellness of individuals, families, groups, and communities in a culturally diverse society.

End-of-Program Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the WCCCD LPN to RN Bridge Program, the graduate will:
- Incorporate professional accountability consistent with the legal, ethical, and professional standards of registered nursing practice.
- Integrate evidence-based principles as a foundation for nursing practice.
- Develop effective patient-centered plans of care for diverse individuals, families, and populations across the lifespan using clinical judgment.

What are my Transfer Pathway Options?
Transfer pathways help demonstrate how the courses you completed at Wayne County Community College District are a foundation for a bachelor’s degree at a 4-year college or university. WCCCD has transfer pathways (also known as transfer/articulation agreements) that allow for greater acceptance of programs and courses into bachelor’s degree programs.
We have articulation agreements with Eastern Michigan University, Indiana Wesleyan University, and the University of Michigan-Flint for those students who wish to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.

The Bridge program may admit up to 30 students annually, with enrollment beginning in the summer semester (May). Please see below for the Application Submission Dates
February 15th of each year
Prospective students are required to submit the following:
- Completed Nursing LPN – RN Bridge Program Application
- Copy of current unencumbered license to practice in the State of Michigan
- Documentation of a minimum of 1,500 work hours as an LPN- documentation must be on Agency/HR letterhead and attached to the program application.
- Current Resume
- High School transcript, copy of High School diploma, or Certified GED scores showing date of completion.
- Official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities previously attended, including WCCCD.
- Official Transcripts from Practical Nursing School, including WCCCD.
- Two (2) Reference Letters- Typed; no copies, originals only, signed in ink within 60 days of the application deadline. Letters written by family and WCCCD faculty or staff are not accepted. If unemployed, submit two personal references.
- Essay – “How I plan to be successful in completing the LPN to RN Bridge Program. 500 to 1000 words. Use basic APA format; typed, double-spaced, 1” margins in 12 pt. font. Include a typed title page. The essay must be signed and dated.
- Fulfill all of the WCCCD admission requirements.
- Submit a copy of the LPN to RN Bridge Information Session Attendance Verification Form (valid for one year from the date of attendance).
PLEASE NOTE: WCCCD LPN to RN Bridge Program does not accept the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) to fulfill any program requirements.

The Ted Scott Advanced Simulation Laboratory provides world-class healthcare simulation experiences for students. Hands-on simulation helps students develop preparedness and insight that are best learned and practiced in realistic clinical conditions. This translates into improved real-world communication, collaboration, teamwork, critical thinking, clinical judgment, and crisis management. The Simulation Lab is equipped with an array of mid-to high fidelity patient simulators, including adult, pediatric, and obstetric manikins that can mimic a wide range of physiological conditions to support student learning. These immersive experiences are designed to bridge the gap between theory and clinical practice while supporting achievement of the End-of-Program Student Learning Outcomes (EPSLOs).
