Elizabeth Youngblood Exhibit

Renowned Multimedia Artist Elizabeth Youngblood to Exhibit at WCCCD’s Brown and Juanita C. Ford Art Gallery

DETROIT, Mich. – June 4, 2025 – Renowned multimedia artist, designer, and educator Elizabeth Youngblood will open a new exhibit of her collected works at the Wayne County Community College District’s Brown and Juanita C. Ford Art Gallery at the Curtis L. Ivery Downtown Campus. The exhibit will open with a reception on Thursday, June 5 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at 1001 West Fort Street in Detroit and will be on display through July 5, 2025. The reception and the exhibit are open to the public at no cost. Regular gallery hours are 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Born and educated in Detroit, Elizabeth Youngblood creates art that blurs the lines between mediums and fine art and “making.” Youngblood’s art creation process includes working with mediums as varied as drawing, ceramics, weaving, bookbinding, design, textile art and more. That most fundamental element of visual vocabulary, the line, has been a cardinal element for much of her visual interrogation of concept, material, and form, and to explore themes of fragility and strength, structure, disorder, and the nature of time and the unexpected changeability of life and fortune.

Youngblood has been a faculty member at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and SUNY Purchase, NY, managed branding with Unisys and designed at the New York Times. Youngblood maintains a studio practice in Detroit and continues to investigate the intersection of her range of interests. She currently leads workshops and special studios in experimental ceramic techniques. Her work is represented in many private and public collections, including the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Detroit, MI, Cranbrook Art Museum, Bloomfield Hills, MI, Kalamazoo Institute of Art, Kalamazoo, MI, among others. Most recently, she had a solo major exhibition at The University of Michigan School of Art and Design Stamps Gallery during the summer of 2024.

The exhibit is presented in partnership with the WCCCD’s School of Continuing Education.  For more information about the exhibit, visit www.wcccd.edu or email artgallery@wcccd.edu.
