Master Sculptor Matt Corbin Presents Artist Lecture at WCCCD’s Brown and Juanita C. Ford Art Gallery at the Curtis L. Ivery Downtown Campus

DETROIT, Mich. – March 25, 2026– Nationally recognized master sculptor Matt Corbin will lecture about his master works on Wednesday, April 1st at 5:30 p.m. at the Wayne County Community College District's Brown and Juanita C. Ford Art Gallery at the Curtis L. Ivery Downtown Campus. The campus is located at 1001 West Fort Street in Detroit, and the exhibit will be on view through April 3, 2026. The reception and exhibit are open to the public at no cost.

Titled, The Pedagogy of Art & Sculpture: Master Works, the exhibit will feature a selection of Corbin's work, ranging from monumental assemblages of wood, aluminum, steel, cans, rubber, and found objects to sculpture that explores textural experimentation with nonsymmetrical statements and primary and secondary color spectrums. Corbin's sculpture imbues a feeling of city life that he embraced. His magnum opus is a collection of large-scale art projects he has built around his home in Detroit, including sundial-inspired forms of the 30-foot-tall metal sculpture Geome Tree.

Born in Pittsburgh in 1945, Corbin moved with his family at age two, studying at Cass Tech and Industrial Design at the College for Creative Studies. Corbin's experiences in both Pittsburgh and Detroit, and the formative years of the 1950s and 1960s in both informed Corbin's work. "Art is my refuge in these uncertain times," Corbin said in his artist's statement, producing work about street life, family life, African life, and education.

The exhibit is presented by WCCCD's School of Continuing Education. For more information about the exhibit, or about the Brown and Juanita C. Ford Art Galleries at WCCCD, please contact 313-496-2704 or email artgallery@wcccd.edu.
