Taylor Childs Exhibit at WCCCD’s Brown and Juanita C. Ford Art Gallery
Detroit-Based Textile and Fine Artist Taylor Childs Featured at WCCCD’s Brown and Juanita C. Ford Art Gallery at Curtis L. Ivery Downtown Campus
DETROIT, Mich. – October 24, 2024 – Detroit-based painter and textile artist Taylor Childs will showcase her exhibit, “Making History – Paintings and Collages”, at the Brown and Juanita C. Ford Art Gallery at Wayne County Community College District’s (WCCCD) Curtis L. Ivery Downtown Campus through December 18, 2024.
The CLI Downtown Campus is located at 1001 West Fort Street in Detroit. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Childs’ work explores themes of identity, family, the African Diaspora, consumerism, and race in contemporary American culture. Using fabric manipulation, collage making, and quilting, she draws upon her upbringing in Detroit to create deeply personal and evocative pieces.
A graduate of the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Childs interned with renowned artists Carole Harris and Tiff Massey. She recently received her MFA in Fiber Arts from the Cranbrook Academy of Art.
Childs currently teaches art at University Prep High School in Detroit and participates in Hope for Flowers, a community arts program created by global fashion designer Tracy Reese.
Her work has been exhibited at:
- The Art Prize in Grand Rapids
- The Footlocker Sneaker House
- Design in the City: Trunk Show
- The Trout Museum of Art in Wisconsin
- The Library Street Collective in Detroit
Childs has also received the Detroit Artist Market Annual Scholarship Award (2023) and the Scholastic Art and Writing Inspiring Educator Award (2022).
